The Virtues of Pre-Primary Endorsements

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 9:22 am

There are two competing thoughts on the proper role of the Republican Party when it comes to primary elections. The first is the one followed in Nevada, where the party stays out of primaries and then backs whichever candidate goes on to the general election.

Cue the Armageddon!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 6:53 am

Nevada’s economy is still slow, which means the Governor may need to call for even additional reductions in the spending increases approved by the Legislature last year. And that has the apocalyptic Chicken Littles in full throat once again.

A Tale of Two Caucuses

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 8:35 am

There’s been much talk about the aftermath of the presidential caucuses in Nevada this year. For their part, the Democrats garnered the lion’s share of attention and media focus. Then again, at least in Clark County, they’ve botched the opportunity big time. Yes, they continue to get more media attention than Republicans, but it’s all about how badly their post-caucus conventions have gone. That’s media attention we here at the GOP are happy not to be getting.

This is what is known in DC as “bringing home the bacon” – at taxpayer expense.

At an unofficial meeting of about a dozen GOP state chairmen in Las Vegas yesterday, Grover Norquist – president of Americans for Tax Reform and author of a new book titled “Just Leave Us Alone” – warned that Republicans risk losing their “brand” as the taxpayer’s best friend thanks to Republicans who back tax hikes.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 1:34 pm

Liberal Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, Reno Democrat, is not only usually dead wrong on one public policy issue after another, but she may also be the most shameless legislator in the state when it comes to using serious incidents and events for partisan political purposes.

McCain vs. the Hard Left

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 9:41 am

It’s official. Well, semi-official. We still have a convention this fall in Minneapolis. But John McCain will be the 2008 Republican presidential nominee. And no matter which of the remaining Democrats eventually wins their party’s splintered nomination (way to go Ohio Democrats!), the nation will have a crystal clear contrast of governing philosophies to choose from. This will decidedly NOT be a choice between two middle-of-the-road moderates.
