Time for Government Employee Pension Reform

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 9:24 am

In the latest round of budget cuts, it was decided to take $17.5 million out of a fund which had been set aside to cover an expected $3 billion-plus “unfunded liability” Nevada taxpayers face in the state’s retirement benefits account for government employees in the future. It’s sort of like what the federal government does when it takes money from the Social Security trust fund for ongoing operations.

Have a Ball

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 10:21 am

If you’ll be in the Reno area next Friday night (April 25th), please join us at our first-ever “Governor’s Boots and Rhinestones” ball at the Peppermill Hotel & Casino. The ball will be the big kick-off event for what I expect will be the biggest Nevada Republican Party state convention in history, which will start promptly at 9:00 am the following morning. Race-Baiting & Tax Hikes on Students

The Nevada University Board of Regents meets in Carson City this week. On tap - amidst the very serious problem of a slowing economy and the need for further belt-tightening across the state government - will be, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal, a proposal to create a “diversity task force to increase the number of minority staff, faculty, administrators and students at public universities and colleges statewide.”

The Virtues of Pre-Primary Endorsements

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 9:22 am

There are two competing thoughts on the proper role of the Republican Party when it comes to primary elections. The first is the one followed in Nevada, where the party stays out of primaries and then backs whichever candidate goes on to the general election.

Cue the Armageddon!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Sue @ 6:53 am

Nevada’s economy is still slow, which means the Governor may need to call for even additional reductions in the spending increases approved by the Legislature last year. And that has the apocalyptic Chicken Littles in full throat once again.
