I Keep Hearing Voices
I keep hearing voices, generally in my Left ear, constantly telling us that there is this great demand for more government services out there and that this demand is the reason why we need tax hikes. But where is this demand?
I don’t see or hear much from taxPAYERS demanding new and expanded government services. Generally what I hear is they just want the government to leave them alone. Can you tell me the last time you ran into someone at the grocery store who said, “You know what, we really need is an End of Life Issues Outreach program.” ($253,000 according to Budget Watch Nevada)
The only people who are demanding government services are people who want the government to pay for the sorts of things the rest of us pay for ourselves out of our own pocket. For example, why should taxpayers be paying for child-care services for someone else’s kids?
The government should focus on its core responsibilities - such as fire protection, the courts and law enforcement - and leave the rest to the private sector, non-profits and charities. Including education. And that’s the Lowden Line.

I am always baffled by the word “demand”. Just because some one demands something, doesn’t mean they are entitled to get it. Anyone who has reared functional children would understand this.
